The Glamp Queen Mission
We sat by the Brazos River sipping on wine as we listened to our male counterparts debate all the different ways to catch a fish. We had realized that these men had been raised on lessons about nature and camping that we had only received glimpses of growing up. Why was that? We both had strong, independent mothers who taught us everything they knew about the outdoors. Yet still these men had received more information and encouragement to get outdoors and learn survival skills as children. It seemed that they had not only their parents but entire circles of older men taking them camping as young boys and teaching them survival skills. As adults, we have taken it upon ourselves to learn these skills. But even with our newly gained knowledge, we still felt ourselves lacking in comparison to the men of our camp. And that’s how the idea for the Glamp Queens Podcast was sparked. We wanted to find a community of strong, independent women who were ready to roll up their sleeves, tie up their boots, and get outdoors! We wanted to encourage women who had never stepped foot in the wilderness that they were absolutely capable of joining the adventure. We wanted to build a tribe of fun and sassy ladies to come along with us as we pushed ourselves to step out of our comfort zone, try new things, and ask questions we otherwise wouldn’t.
Glamp Queen Mission:
To encourage and inspire,
To push ourselves with truths or dares,
To build a voice of inclusivity, positivity,
And exploration in the great outdoors.
Starting that very first week when the idea came to us in early April, the Glamp Queens have been meeting several times a week, typically for four hours at a time to work on building our brand, researching, writing episodes and blog posts, learning new technology for audio editing, graphic design, website design, and marketing strategies. As we moved forward in recording and writing, our equipment and techniques both improved. In fact, our first two episodes were recorded from the inside of our closet using an iPhone to record! It wasn’t until Sarah’s sister Grace Anne contributed by giving us an actual podcasting mic that our sound quality really improved! By Episode 4, we had learned how to structure episodes for better flow and Katie’s audio editing skills were put to the test. All of this could not have been possible without the support of friends, family, and spouses who didn’t complain when we went MIA for days on end to work on this dream. Their words of encouragement meant to the world to us as we stepped into this new territory of podcasting.
We learned how to build a business from the ground up and how to establish a structure to keep our mission moving forward. Because we didn't just want to make a podcast and be done with it. We wanted to create a space where the very community that we longed for could thrive and grow. We wanted to find opportunities to teach as we learned, and encourage our listeners to ask questions. What surprised us the most was just how needed this type of content really was! The more we looked into it, the harder it was to find other podcasts out there creating this type of a community. Most of what we found were specifically targeted towards men and if they focused on women, it was usually women who were very clearly nature experts. How then were more women expected to enter into the world of camping when they had never been invited to the party?
It’s been a journey these last five months but this is just the beginning! Our dream is to continue building a community of empowered women by creating a relatable space through our own vulnerability. We want to maintain a mission inclusivity by ensuring our content is accessible and encourage our community to explore territories and take on new challenges. The sky’s the limit and we hope you’ll join us for this next chapter of the adventure.
Love,
